Sagimet is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing novel fatty acid synthase (FASN) inhibitors that are designed to target dysfunctional metabolic pathways in diseases resulting from the overproduction of the fatty acid, palmitate. Sagimet’s lead drug candidate, denifanstat, is an oral, once-daily pill and selective FASN inhibitor in development for the treatment of NASH, for which there are no treatments currently approved in the United States or Europe. FASCINATE-2, a Phase 2b clinical trial of denifanstat in NASH with liver biopsy-based primary endpoints, was successfully completed with positive results. The Role:

The Corporate Controller will be responsible for overseeing the monthly financial reporting process, day-today accounting operations and work closely with the organization’s senior leadership team.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates, administers, and controls accounting and financial operations.
  • Responsible for cash management, equity management, and risk management.
  • Oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and fixed asset activities.
  • Develops, maintains, refines, implements, and enforces accounting policies, controls, systems, and procedures.
  • Responsible for the accounting close process at month end, quarter end, and year end.
  • Coordinates and manages the preparation of consolidated and stand-alone financial statements for external reporting to the SEC and appropriate stock exchanges. This includes preparation of all company public filings including 10Q, 10K, 8K, S3, 14A and others as required by state, local and SEC requirements.
  • Develops processes, systems, and controls related to external financial reporting.
  • Serves as the primary contact with the Company’s external auditors to support annual audits, quarterly financial reviews, and internal controls testing.
  • Leads the quarterly and annual tax federal and state tax filings and annual financial statement tax provision with external tax specialists.
  • Lead annual budgeting process that incorporates key management in the process and delivers credible, timely budgets. Provides and supports analytical tools and models for departmental managers.
  • Monitors spending on capital projects, maintains expense accruals related to clinical trials, and reports on actual expenditures versus approved plan.
  • Manages, reviews, and ensures compliance with the Company’s T&E policy.
  • Develops and maintains spending authorization matrix.
  • Prepare executive management presentations for board review.
  • Other projects and duties as needed.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, accounting, or other relevant field of study; MBA preferred.
  • CPA required.
  • The position requires a minimum of 10+ years of experience with a pharma or biotech company.
  • 5 years of manager level public accounting experience preferred.
  • Experienced in financial reporting at a publicly traded company.
  • Demonstrated SEC reporting/filing knowledge including extensive experience preparing 8-K’s, 10-Q’s, and 10-K’s.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and ability to identify new GAAP matters and assess impact on the business.
  • Proven track record of working independently, while achieving functional objectives
  • Self-starter with good analytical skills, builds strong relationships, has a proven track record of client/vendor management, and possesses excellent business communications skills including writing and presentation capabilities.
  • Ability to communicate (orally and in writing) in a professional manner when dealing with employees, vendors, company contacts and the Board of Directors/Audit Committee.
  • Experience with NetSuite (required), Equity Edge, and Sure Payroll preferred.

Compensation

The expected base salary range for this role is $275,000 – $300,000 Compensation will be based on a variety of factors, including experience, qualifications, and internal equity. Sagimet offers a competitive employment package that includes an annual bonus, equity, and a generous benefits package.
